When digital media use starts encroaching on children’s wellness and family life, it can be frustrating for parents and caregivers. Where can they find reliable information and guidance?

To support families, we are pleased to announce the launch of our definitive guide to digital media overuse and addiction, written by members of the Mental Health Work Group at the Screen Time Action Network at Fairplay.

Our authoritative, evidence-based guide, "When Screens Take Over: A Parent’s Guide on Teen Digital Media Overuse," is the definitive resource on digital media overuse and addiction. We've designed our guide to be an easy-to-use tool that supports parents/caregivers, mental health practitioners, pediatricians, school counselors, and anyone who works with or cares about teens and children.

Based on best practices and prepared by top experts in the fields of addiction, adolescent, and youth mental health, our guide includes:

  • How persuasive design tactics lead to overuse and addiction

  • Helpful information about digital media and youth

  • Guidance on recognizing digital media overuse/addiction

  • Prevention recommendations to keep youth safe

  • Treatment options if a teen you know is struggling

  • Wellness practices to support adolescent well-being
